Shri Bhartiya Vidya Mandal was established in 1965 with an aim to provide education to the surrounding area of Surat district. Since then, this trust has established different schools, colleges and other educational institutions to cater the need of the region from time to time. The journey began with the inception of Shri J S Bhakta and Shri K.M. Bhakta Arts and Shri A.N. Shah Science College in June 1966, receiving its affiliation from the then South Gujarat University, Surat. At that time, it was the only college serving the rural areas of Surat, catering the need of the students from scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, minorities and economically backward communities. It was the blessings for the aspirant girl students in those days as the institute was under the vicinity of the Surat district. Expanding its academic reach, the institute introduced Shri N.F. Shah Commerce College in 1978, which has become a part of the same institute. This is the only “Grant in Aid” college in South Gujarat region, which is offering the higher education in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce under one roof.
Today, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce, along with a specialized “Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology” (PGDMLT). With highly qualified faculties, state-of-the-art infrastructure, ICT-enabled classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a comprehensive library, and a lush green cricket ground; the college provides students with an enriching learning environment.
The students actively participate in NCC, NSS and Cultural events at University, State and National-level. Time and again the students have secured top ranks in university examinations thus adding an extra feather in its crown. In addition to that the students have also participated and won distinguished prizes and medals in NCC, NSS and Cultural Activities at University, State and also National level. The institute is a prestigious educational hub dedicated to academic excellence and holistic student development.
